(Updated 30th December 2013)
There has been a few posts in the past showing off the list of child themes available for Genesis, but let’s be honest.. many of them are pretty awful and not up to date. So we have handpicked only the very best, which truly show the potential of Genesis and which are pushing the realms of design the furthest up to date.

This post will be added to as new inspiring Genesis child themes are released. Especially those which will be using Genesis 2.0 and html5 markup, so you might want to book mark this page to refer back to.

Remember, all these themes listed are child themes of the wordpress framework Genesis. You will need to be using the Genesis framework (by StudioPress) for any of these designs to work.

      Hi Jenni,

The Pin-It theme is a really nice concept. I’m glad there are people giving away their work for free. We should have some self-made genesis child themes on the site soon, some of which will be free so watch this space!

    • Dave Erin says

      Hi Keith!

Yes this is definitely the problem with Genesis ha! Soon Genesis 2.0 will be released and there will be even more choice for sure. I can’t wait to start building some child themes to go with it.

    • Dave Erin says

Indeed it is a great framework. I am really looking forward to some of the new ideas that people come up with for child themes. The possibilities seem endless!

Really good article, these themes are all in my top 10 of the moment, it seems a shame for Studiopress at this stage that most of the above are 3rd party projects – but I have a feeling when Genesis 2.0 is released the next wave of themes will be something special.

    • Dave Erin says

I think Studiopress would like to see other people do great work with the framework which they provide. If anything, it helps promote them even more when people see great child themes which they can use on projects.

  2. says

Great share guys. On a moment when I’m searching some new genesis themes for my new Niche websites. I have a question for you guys about thin blog. Will shoot you up a PM later.

    Thanks for the share.

    • Dave Erin says

Hi Michael. Thanks for pointing that out. I will be adding many more themes which are not made by Studiopress as soon as Genesis 2.0 is released. There are some great designers who have said they are working on themes which should be released very soon which I am keeping a close eye on.

    • Dave Erin says

      Hi Rohit

I’m glad you like the themes, it can be hard work searching through all the themes available online.

    • Dave Erin says

Thanks Rohit. We have now built a filterable list which contains all the responsive child themes that are available here. We will be updating it constantly. We will always keep our favourites in this post though

  3. says

These themes look great. I use headway to build my website. It is not a bad framework but there is very little child theme there for headway. So I start to do some research for Genesis theme framework. If I can see more child themes to support genesis 2.0, I may consider to switch to Genesis.

Great list, thanks! Just trying to buy the Denali theme, but it seems only has the demo. I can’t find where to purchase. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

    • Dave Erin says

Hi Rob. I have heard along the grapevine that Denali is the next release after the last one which was Magazine Pro. I’m not sure why they released the demo so early, perhaps to build suspense.

  5. says

Thank you for updating this list! I keep returning in curiosity. I’m really attracted to the clean lines of the Mindfulness theme. However I don’t need all the widgetized features for the home page. I have a very simple, small blog. Unfortunately I suffer from less than optimum hosting – so – do you think I could still use a child theme efficiently like Mindfulness even while it’s loaded with all the extras?

    • Dave Erin says

      Hi Carrie

You could still use Mindfulness and strip out all the unnecessary code that you won’t be using, that way it won’t take any extra time loading the features you don’t use.

  6. says

Hi dave. eleven 40 is missing in the list – because i love it at first sight. Anyway, i’m looking forward to purchase studiopress theme for my new blog. which is best suitable theme for blogging in your opinion?

    • Dave Erin says

      Hi Naren

Eleven 40 was on our list but it was moved as newer themes became available. What type of blog do you want and who is your audience? That will determine which is the best theme for you. If you give us some more information, we can advise you. :)
